Our Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelf is one of our most popular designs, featuring clean lines, natural wood character, and a timeless appearance.
Designed to complement our Floating Mantels and furniture collections, this Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelf brings a cohesive look to modern farmhouse, rustic, and contemporary interiors.
2. External Construction – Five Solid Pine Components
Each Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelf is constructed using five exterior solid pine boards, carefully assembled to create a seamless hollow-box design.
The five components include:
Front Face: The visible front panel of the Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelf, glued and secured to the shelf body.
Top Panel: The upper horizontal surface, joined to the end panels using precision-cut miter joints.
Bottom Panel: The lower horizontal surface, also connected to the end panels using miter joints.
Right End Panel: Closes the right side of the Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelf and connects to the top and bottom panels through miter joints.
Left End Panel: Closes the left side of the Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelf and connects to the top and bottom panels through miter joints.

Our standard French cleat lengths range from 8 to 48 inches.
The mounting system is designed to accommodate installation into two or three wall studs, depending on stud spacing, cleat length, and mounting configuration.
Once installed, the concealed French cleat provides reliable support without visible mounting hardware, preserving the seamless floating appearance.
5. Weight Capacity – Up to 120 Pounds
URBANDI Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelves are designed to support heavy items such dishes, glassware and books, to decorative items, framed photographs, and much more.
When properly installed into three structurally sound wall studs using appropriate mounting hardware, the Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelf can support up to 120 pounds.
Actual load capacity depends on proper installation, wall construction, mounting hardware, and secure attachment to structural supports.

Since we control our entire process onsite and locally source our materials, we can focus on the finer details of our quality process.
HAND SELECT WOOD - Your wood is hand selected for the best quality, character and charm.
CUTTING - It sounds simple, but precision is key to meet your exact specifications.
ASSEMBLY - Since we allow for the proper amount of curing time, this step takes 5 hours.
REFINING - While many imperfections are actually part of the unique character of each piece of wood, some imperfections are flaws. So we go to additional steps to correct them.
SANDING - This is a two step process starting with automation followed by hand sanding to ensure your solid wood piece is just right.
FINISHING - Your piece comes to life with staining and finishing to ensure just the right look.
PACK & SHIP - The last step in our Build-To-Order sustainable process, is hand packing your personalized order. To ensure your order arrives safety and in a timely manner, we use UPS and FedEx.
RECYCLING - Through our Build-To-Order 7-step sustainable process, over 75% of our waste is recycled or repurposed working with local farmers who use our wood shavings for their barns and stables.

Our Urbandi MAX hidden bracket system is engineered for exceptional support. When properly installed, shelf capacity is up to 40 lbs per stud depending on shelf length, mounting configuration, and the number of wall studs available.
Each Urbandi MAX shelf bracket is made in-house and can hold up to 40 lbs per stud or up to 120 lbs (based on three studs).
And to provide a beautiful and durable finish, we exclusively use commercial grade finishes plus protective clear coat for years of enjoyment.

Installation Steps:
Step 1:
Find the studs in your wall using a stud finder, and lightly mark their location with a pencil. Stud installation is highly recommended for a secure fit.
Step 2:
Decide where you want to hang your shelf. Hold the mounting bracket against the wall, making sure it’s level. Mark the screw holes on the wall studs with a pencil.
Step 3:
Partially screw the mounting bracket into the wall using the provided screws. Check again that the bracket is level, then fully tighten the screws.
Step 4:
Align the holes on the back of the shelf with the bracket extensions, and slide the shelf into place.
Product Care - Simple
To care of your Modern 3" Thick Floating Shelf, wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
To protect finish, avoid the use of harsh chemicals and household cleaners.
Please note, hardware may loosen over time. Periodically check that all connections are tight.

Yes. Every Urbandi piece is made through a hands-on build-to-order process. We use modern tools for precision, but the majority of the work is guided by skilled craftspeople who select, cut, assemble, sand, finish, pack, and inspect each piece with care.
Are Urbandi products made from real wood?
Yes. Urbandi products are made from real solid wood, not MDF, particle board, or cheap veneer. Some pieces, such as certain fireplace mantels, use a hollow solid-wood construction to make installation easier and pricing more accessible while still maintaining real wood quality.
Can Urbandi products be used outside?
Most Urbandi products are designed for indoor use, where temperature and humidity are controlled. Outdoor pieces may be available as custom orders using materials and finishes suited for exterior conditions. Contact our team to discuss your project.
How much weight can Urbandi shelves hold?
Weight capacity depends on shelf size, depth, bracket type, and installation method. On average, floating shelves installed into wall studs with the included brackets can hold 25–55 pounds per stud. Longer or deeper shelves may need additional support brackets.
How do I care for real wood?
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Wipe spills right away with a slightly damp cloth, then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh cleaners, abrasive pads, and silicone-based products. Keep real wood away from extreme heat, direct sunlight, and excessive humidity.
How do you choose your raw material suppliers?
We choose suppliers based on material quality, consistency, responsibility, and proximity. For hardwoods, we work with mills in Central Appalachia and trusted regional partners who provide strong, beautiful wood suited for long-lasting furniture and shelving.
Love these shelves! This is my second purchase of the Modern 3" Thick Pine Floating Shelves in Provincial. The quality and various size options are perfect. You do have to drill holes in the wood mounting brackets and on the shelf to secure it to the mounting bracket, but it's not too big a deal.
They were exactly what I was looking for in this space. They were very easy to install and they look great. I’m still working on the design and what I want that to entail, but that’s the fun part!
We bought a house with almost nothing around the fireplace. This mantle looks even better than I thought it would. A lot to mount but my husband got it done.
Customer service responded quickly but just strung us along. We waited a very long time for both our orders. The shelves arrived and do not to match. Photos show what we received and the product on the website that we ordered. The craftsmanship is awful. The bracket is cheap. The stains on the shelves we received are not even close to each other, let alone close to the photo on the website. We are so disappointed in this product and for the price we paid. We got a “15%” refund on the first shelf for having to wait almost a month for it. Then the second shelf arrived and looked AWFUL! Such a terrible, drawn out experience.
Great craftsmanship. These look upscale because of the 3” thickness.
Two shelves can have slightly different color or pattern - in case anyone is looking to match exactly. But this uniqueness is the beauty of real wood.
I had ordered the samples to get the idea of the color.

The color of these floating shelves are a yellow orange oak. Definitely not what was pictured. Now I have to send them all down and apply a proper stain. Very unhappy with the product.
This is the 3rd Urbandi floating shelf that we've ordered. The construction is very solid and the depth of the support bracket gives it added strength compared to some floating shelves that have a shallow support bracket. The staining was as advertised and it looks great on our wall. And, on top of that, the Urbandi company is great to work with.

Urbandi shelves are by far superior to any I have purchased in the past. I’ve bought plenty of "big box" store shelves over the years, but the quality here is simply non-comparable.
The items arrived very well-packaged, ensuring everything was in perfect condition. While the installation was a little tricky due to the wooden brackets, I was able to get everything mounted successfully. The final result is a perfect fit—nice, clean, and exactly the look I was going for.

Absolutely beautiful! Very high quality construction, they came out of the box still smelling like fresh wood stain. Amazing to be able to get shelves that are real wood and real stain!
Correct the description online and pictures. If it says shelves and a shows picture of two shelves, the assumption would be set of two. I shouldn’t have to click detail to see single shelf. If this was my first time ordering sure, but have ordered twice in the past from you on Amazon (which is from your store front) and those are sold in a set. Great product but not worth 145 for one shelf.
